Follow Donna-Marie on Twitter

Twitter has really taken off recently with more and more people, including business owners, joining the Twitterverse every day.

And every day I send off a series of links to help new twitterers to understand how to RT, reply, hashtags, DMs and various other applications that will help them make the most of the experience.

I decided that rather than sending off 25 links to my favourite resources, I’m going to list them here. Makes sense, right?

So, here are my suggestions for compulsory reading for new Tweeters:

General:

Applications To Help Manage Your Tweets:

Applications For Mobiles:

Blackberry Applications:

Free Background Templates:

Twitter Graphics:

  • Siah Designs
  • Randa Clay Designs
  • Vincent Abray – while the site is written in French the buttons’ text is in English and they are all absolutely gorgeous! (Not to mention the gorgeous language – I LOVE French… a bit like Morticia Addams whenever Gomez started speaking in French, for those who used to watch the Addams Family)

Ahem… getting back on track here…

Other Useful Applications:

These are my favourite applications and sites. I hope you find them helpful. Happy Twittering!

Oh how I wish this was available 6 months ago!

Anne and Katie are two mums from opposite sides of the world who have teamed up to create a simple, straight-forward, step-by-step video course on how to set up a WordPress site. It covers everything you need to know, from the early basics such as how to set up your hosting account and FTP service, right through to configuring WordPress, backing up, adding widgets and lots more.

One of the things I love about their Blogging Time Savers course is that it’s extremely affordable. And better still, you don’t have to purchase the entire course if you don’t need it. You can buy individual modules for just a few dollars each.

Now I wouldn’t recommend this course if I wasn’t sure that it offers what it says and great value too. And I’m very pleased to add that Katie is now helping me to fix a couple of technical issues I’ve been having with this site… issues that three other WordPress site builders haven’t been able to help me with. So this lady knows what she’s talking about. (And I can’t wait until my graphics and videos are behaving themselves on here!)

So if you would like someone to sit down next to you and show you, step-by-step, how to set up or manage your WordPress site, have a look at Blogging Time Savers now.

Throughout October and November the Business Mums Magazine is running a competition. Everyone who helps to Spread The Word about the magazine can enter the competition to win some cool prizes.

The first entry is a video created by Mary-Lou at Groovy Kids Parties that features the magazine – you can see it here on the Magazine’s blog.

Melissa from Business Mums Network has also put together a Top 10 Tips guide that you can download for free. This guide is a summary of all the Top 10 Tips sections that have been in the magazine over the last two years.

If you want to enter the competition, put your thinking cap on and start spreading the word.

When you write something on the internet – on your blog, blog comments, your website, articles that you publish – do you ever stop and wonder where your words may end up?

Personally, it never ceases to amaze me where my articles end up. I often see articles I’ve submitted to article directories on other people’s blog and websites, and I’ve even seen a couple in business newsletters that I subscribe to (all used appropriately and acknowledging the author, of course).

This week, I discovered that a post by Paul B. Brown on the New York Times Business Blog has quoted the Small Business Diva. Who would ever have thought? (NB: This is a great blog by the way – definitely worth visiting).

Now, would you like to know how I discovered this? No, I don’t have time to spend all day reading through millions of websites/blogs. I subscribe to Google Alerts. All you do is go to Google Alerts and enter the search terms you want to be alerted to, such as your name, your business name or even just an industry or topic that you’re interested in. Enter how often you want to receive email alerts, whether you want websites, blogs or everything, and your email address. That’s it. Simple.

When someone publishes something that includes your nominated search terms, you’ll be sent an email with the details.

Here’s to your success in business,

Donna-Marie
